Guinea pepper. Aframomum melegueta , commonly known as amomo , refers to a West African spice obtained from the Aframomum melegueta plant (Ginger Family, Zingiberaceae ). It is spicy on the palate, with a flavor much like that of black pepper . It is also known as Madagascar cardamom, African peppered cardamom , Guinea grains of paradise , African malagueta , 1 malagueta pepper, Guinea pepper or Guinea beans . The seeds have many applications in the field of traditional medicine, against intestinal problems, colds, muscle and back pain, also to heal wounds and kill parasites in the oral cavity. They have aphrodisiac effects and make you sleepy Plant of the ginger family , with a root in the form of a rhizome , with leaf stalks no more than 60 cm (centimeters) in length. The leaves are compound. The flowers are purple and come directly from the root, more or less solitary. The fruit is red, with a multitude of brownish aromatic seeds.
